ROME HALLOWEEN PILGRIMAGE 2024, 2025

I lead this Halloween Pilgrimage every year, the dates will always occur at the end of October and November 1.  This is helpful information to know for guests who have to give advanced notice at work.

3-day Rome Halloween Pilgrimage is October 30, 31, and November 1, 2023.  Cost is 500 Euro per person per day for 4 days.  This is the spookiest of all pilgrimages because it’s mostly about visible impressions saints left behind and legends connected to spectacular but true events for ordinary folks who had a little something special about them.  

We will have Mass at San Callisto Catacombs and tour the Catacombs, visit the nearby Church of Quo Vadis that marks where Peter saw Jesus, and the Church of San Sebastian down the road to see the marble impressions of Jesus’s footprints from Quo Vadis.  November 1 Mass at the Church of Ognissanti with the Writhing Cross, the most provocative cross of all time.

We will visit the places in Rome where legends are made of, the Ponte Sisto Bridge where Olimpia Maidalchini Pamphili, sister-in-law of Pope Innocent X Pamphili, dashed madly across to escape with gold and treasures from the Pope’s room after his death, the Church of Prayer and Death, and the Criminale Museo, the Capuchin Crypts, and Cenci Square where the Cenci family lived in Rome.  

It is said of the Church of Prayer and Death, the Confraternity who guard ancient activities of burying dead left out on roads in the countryside of Rome, will gather on Halloween Eve or Halloween night wearing long robes with pointed hoods and form a procession line into the Church.  Via Giulia, the spookiest street in Rome.

We will visit Santa Francesca Romana to see knee prints of Peter when he fell to the ground at his Apostolic victory over magician Simon Magus who fell out of the sky onto the Via Sacra when Peter prayed for the demons to release their hold on the flying Simon.

The Scavi Tour and a visit to the house address of Mastro Titta, Giovanni Battista Bugatti, the most notorious Executioner for the Papal States from 1796 to 1864, and a visit to the Church of Purgatory.




We will have different cooking classes once a day for lunch or supper.   This is the best of Rome’s spooky ghosts.  Early morning risings, I arrange lodging for 4 nights, beginning October 29, Aperitivo and dinner that night, and Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for the next 3 days.

On November 1 All Saints’ Day we will attend the Confraternity Mass in the evening at the Church of Prayer and Death on Via Giulia.  If you are still in Rome on November 2, plan to attend the Confraternity Mass in the evening at the Church of San Giovanni Calibita on Tiber Island.  The Procession to the Crypt is a short distance away to the nearby Piazza of San Bartolomeo across the street on Tiber Island.

ROME OF THE TRANSPORT!

MY PILGRIMAGES ARE NOT  WALKING PILGRIMAGES.  I USE RELIABLE COURTEOUS PRIVATE TRANSPORT.  OR ROME CITY CABS WHERE NECESSARY.  I DON’T SPEND YOUR MONEY ON WALKING AND WAITING FOR CITY BUSES, MOST OF WHICH ARE LATE AND TOO CROWDED ANYWAY.
