LENT IN ROME 2024 !
LENT in ROME is a unique one in a kind experience, it revolves around attending Mass every morning or evening at a different Station Church from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. The order of the Lenten Station Churches remains the same year after year since Ancient Rome times when Pope Gregory the Great established and standardized Lenten Station Churches in Rome by 600 A.D.
The practice of the Lenten Station Churches however derives from fourth century Jerusalem. If you’ve always wanted to participate in Ancient Ebraic practices, Rome is the place to do it. These Ancient Lenten practices were supported with processions, fasting and prayer. And a thriving sense of community as Churches all across Rome in turn came alive with celebrations of the Lenten Season. Only in Rome.
If you can stay in Rome for 47 days in 2024 from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, we can experience Mass at a different Station Church every day. Or come when you can, come as early as you can and stay as long as you can for the fullest Lenten experience that will enrich your life. Some Station Churches open only on their Station Day so the only opportunity to visit these Ancient Churches is on their Station Day.
The Pontifical North American College holds a 7:00 AM Mass in English every morning at each Station Church, 6:45 AM on Ash Wednesday. Then at 5 PM the Station Church for the day holds Mass in Italian. I normally attend the early morning Mass.
Breakfast after Mass, and then a trip to La Chiesa di Santa Croce in Gerusalemme to visit the Ancient relics that Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine I, brought to Rome from Jerusalem in the early 4th century. I arrange all transportation and breakfasts. 500 Euro flat cost for a 3-hour Pilgrimage, cost may be adjusted for a group, depending on size.

Here is the 2023 calendar of Lenten Station Churches in Rome. Read it for an idea of Lent in Rome in 2024. Lent starts with Ash Wednesday on February 14, 2024. Dates change year to year but the order of the Station Churches stays the same.
I happen to know which Station Church has the very best Communion Host.
